With over 20 years’ experience working within the design industry, Jim manages the delivery of Ascend Studio’s client design communications and brand strategies. Jim’s portfolio covers most industry sectors, but his main focus in recent years has been delivering robust creative design solutions within the services sector. Bringing big brand thinking to both analogue and digital platforms for clients including: the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, ING and Credit Suisse.

Creative Director

Paul is a highly experienced Creative Director and brand strategist. He fulfils the primary role of directing and guiding the studio’s conceptual output and ensures exceptional quality in design execution and effectiveness across the team. Paul founded Ascend Studio in 2006 as an experimental brand house which quickly developed into one of the most respected brand consultancies in London. He holds a National Diploma in Design & Art History, a Higher National Diploma in Visual Communication (SCAT) and a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design (UWIC) and has worked previously with IDEO, DLKW and Sotheby’s.

Ruby, a highly qualified and experienced Account Manager, is hands-on in overseeing client schedules. She serves as a clear and consistent link between key stakeholders, our directors, the design team, and external suppliers. Ruby ensures deadlines are met, maintains quality, and manages budgets. Her instrumental role contributes to the successful project delivery we take pride in.

Harry creates communications that are clear, relevant and visually engaging. His fresh, open and approachable attitude provides clients with meaningful, strategic visual solutions. Over the past 9 years, Harry has developed his skills working for a wide variety of industries: from the Arts and Music through to Corporate, Education & Public Sector, across both traditional and digital mediums.

Yuliya Ratnikova

Senior Designer

Yuliya is our multi-talented international senior designer, art director and sometimes illustrator. Originally from Moscow, she is now living and working in the UK. Since 2013, she has specialised in brand identity and visual identity systems, as well as digital within a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, real estate, retail and F&B.

Designer

Dan is an award winning designer who brings bags of creativity and energy to his role. An excellent all round creative, he works across many aspects of both identity and digital design with a particular skill for film and animation. Dan joined the team in June 2021 and holds a First Class BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from Falmouth University.

Isabel is an experienced designer with a track record that includes branding, packaging, digital design and campaigns. She brings a distinctive personality and perspective to her work and excels in research-led concept generation, strategy, layout and aesthetic.

Designer

As an art historian turned brand designer, Maddy brings a unique perspective to her work, combining her creative curiosity with research and and narrative. She and loves experimenting with different media and has particular interests in brand system design.

Insight + information = clarity + understanding
We capture the most important competitor information. We audit the most relevant communication channels. We seek out market insights, and we survey and interview the audience and stakeholders to find new knowledge and opinions. We distil all this down to a structured set of brand discoveries.

Define

Intelligent differentiation – Setting out a brands philosophy and core purpose with a clearly defined strategy ensures we can translate that into a meaningful narrative. At this stage we explore compelling positioning strategies, propositions and audience profiles and agree the parameters for creative execution.
