Transforming a 100 year old manufacturing brandto a future-facing force for change
Since beginning in 1928, Fords became renowned for developing the first machine to produce foil closures for returnable glass milk bottles. They work alongside the largest global brands to design, develop and engineer everything from the bottles, cartons and jars to the machines that seal the products.
To develop a new brand that builds upon Fords reputation and heritage, and affirms them as a leading innovator and key influencer in sustainability, product innovation, packaging, technology & engineering solutions.
We worked closely with the Fords team and learnt about how they work and how they can influence almost every aspect of the packaging life-cycle. Their aspirations to widen the brand offering to become the go-to consultancy and supplier of new product design, production evolution and marketing services. The ambition was clear – set a new standard for product sustainability & innovation.
We were inspired by the interaction with each product closure and developed a graphic representation of the seal being removed. This was used to craft a bespoke headline font and formed the basis of the identity system. We defined three values focused messages around Sustainability, Innovation and Excellence, which become the main messaging pillars – each with their own colours and sub-messaging.
The identity reflects the company’s specialism in product design as well as technical ability and carries the brand’s dna though to every touch point. It is robust and utilitarian yet delicate and approachable.
